What is your specialty, what makes your work unique? Or place your artist's statement.

Through my research practice I desire to find a passage through which the body travels towards liberation. In search for a tear in the fabric of binary gender.
Through experimenting with placing my own body and consciousness in performative processes, I try to create understanding in the way garments are gendered and question their meaning. The resulting products of my research performances could be seen as practice testimonies [ornamented garments - collaged pieces - deconstructed / de-ornamented garments], they however don’t carry all meaning I try to convey. By using my method of research I challenge myself to pull the process apart from the product. Therefore, I decided that the processes — performative embodied research processes — can take the shape of a product. Resulting in the given that all interventions become products, all products are processes and all testimonies serve as both. The processes, products and testimonies form a collective presence of work that creates and forms substance.
These awareness practices aim to circumvent our existing relationship with gendered fashion, starting with personal conversations about gender, fashion and their intersection.

What are your ambitions? What do you want to be in five years?

I find that my work creates the possibility of an endless practices of discovering ones gendered identity. Expanding and exploring such a practice is exactly what I would see myself doing within the working field. To create processes, products and testimonies about our intersected relationship with gender, fashion, binaries and identities.
My ambitions for the upcoming 5 years are mainly connected to further developing my research and writing skills. Therefore I am going to follow the Master’s Program Fashion Strategy at ArtEZ University of the Arts .
Also connected to these ambitions is the ambition to get my work published. My work has always found itself in quite a private domain which has made me completely connected to my own work. I however find it extremely important that the work will also be found in the public domain. To me that is the only way to further accomplish the goal that the work is aiming to do; to truly find a passage through which the body travels towards liberation.

What is the most important thing you have learned during your studies?

The most important thing that I have learned while studying Fashion Design at HKU is that you should always follow your own instincts.
During my studies I quickly noticed that my interest was more found in processes of research surrounding fashion and the relation to its cultural environment then the more common process of designing fashion itself. The moment I acknowledged this differentiation was the moment I could truly start to develop myself, my skills and my practice.
