Artist statement; wat is je specialisme, wat maakt jouw werk uniek?

Esther de Ruiter is a mixed-media artist who explores different ways of combining various types of moving image. How can we create an alternative kind of story, one that still affects us in a time when we are overwhelmed with information? She has a fascination for those areas within our abundant Western society where friction and therefore ethical questions occur. Inspired by personal experiences and often including aspects of new technology, she finds truth in the bizarreness and absurdity of the mundane world. Using her puppets, made out of a diversity of materials, as actors in her videowork contributes to the autonomy that Esther pursues to maintain during her creative process. There will always be room for experiments and change.

Wat zijn je ambities? Wat wil je over vijf jaar bereikt hebben?

I hope to have an online channel where I can show short sketches and series to a wide audience. Also, I would love to be able to contribute to and work together on projects of other makers in different types of film and moving image.

Wat is het belangrijkste dat je hebt geleerd tijdens je studie?

I have learned what it is that makes me enthusiastic and passionate in making and creating, and also important; what's not.
