Artist statement; wat is je specialisme, wat maakt jouw werk uniek?

I think as a want-to-be filmmaker who has done the study Image and Media Technology, I have a different view on a world which tends to be a little bit conventional. The origin of film is theater, but for the first 10 years of making media, I've never made this connection. I see my work as a piece of digital media and I think as a filmmaker you need to take this medium in consideration while making films. I try to make my films to be a story, but also to be about the digital medium itself as well. My belief in film is that it communicates stories through atmospheres and story worlds more than through a logical narrative. This is why I tend to write stories more from the story world than from the character.

Wat zijn je ambities? Wat wil je over vijf jaar bereikt hebben?

I hope to keep on researching the digital medium and to always be aware of the latest techniques. At the same time I try to live my life apart from this bubble of artists and filmmakers, to make sure my work doesn't become too meta. I love music videos and commercials, and I'd love to make experimental video-art on the side as well. I hope to have the video-art as a fundament to implement in the music videos and commercials, because I feel like that's a way to reach all people in society.

Wat is het belangrijkste dat je hebt geleerd tijdens je studie?

I've learned that everything I do on a daily basis is part of my personal process and therefore I don't have to judge myself all the time. I can live my life without external pressure for the first time in my life, which caused me to discover my inner automatic pilot.
