Artist statement; wat is je specialisme, wat maakt jouw werk uniek?
I like to daydream a lot. To overthink things that really shouldn’t matter. To immerse myself in learning new techniques, conversations about social topics, discovering new objects and (sometimes useless) facts. I like to think that there are multiple ways to look at something by questioning them or wandering in the ‘’what if’s’’. By twisting the narrative of the original image I can challenge the original concept or bring attention to aspects people did not notice or know about.
As an artist I like to use my work, whether it be a drawn illustration, animation or even pottery, as a form to address certain topics or beliefs. Wrapped in a fun package, my work is there to gently nudge conversations about things we find hard to talk about, to learn something and make people look differently at the world around us.
Wat zijn je ambities? Wat wil je over vijf jaar bereikt hebben?
There isn't really a specific goal I have set for the next five years, but I'd like to think that I will have expanded my horizons by that time. Wether that be in animations, writing, lino-printing or another different medium I'll see by then, but either way, I would like to continue to learn and explore new techniques.
Wat is het belangrijkste dat je hebt geleerd tijdens je studie?
The most important thing I learned is to allow myself to take my time and to do things on my own terms. Somtimes there seems to be such a rush to get through a process or to a final work, which can kind of take away the fun or wonder you experience with your work. I have learned that I shouldn't let myself get swept away in that rush, but instead stick to what I want to do and how I want to do it.
