What is your specialty, what makes your work unique? Or place your artist's statement.
I am a designer who uses her collections to tell personal stories and at the same time address social topics. I explore daily life and the personal feelings and experiences I gain in it.
My collections are a reaction to the everyday. A reaction to what is happening in the world, but at the same time a kind of escapism.
Because creating is a way to express yourself, to express your soul and let the smallest stories speak, but also a way to realize your desires.
Each collection is like a personal diary.
Art expresses the vulnerability of our existence. Sometimes an escape from this reality is just what a person needs.
In my creations I seeks out the tension between masculinity and femininity, by playing with sensuality and vulnerability in the silhouettes, colors, materials and details. I want to create a freedom for the man to show his vulnerable side.
As a designer I am mainly focused on menswear but with my work in general I want to create a freedom in which someone can put on a garment in which he or she feels fantastic and can make it their own.
What are your ambitions? What do you want to be in five years?
As a designer I am able to explore and follow my own fascinations. I can create stories, translate them into visual work and dive into a subject as deep as possible until it really feels my own.
I really love this part of the process and that is why I want to be doing this for the rest of my life.
That is also why I want to start my own brand.
A brand with sustainability and acceptance as keywords and that tries to make the world a better place.
What is the most important thing you have learned during your studies?
You are constantly challenged to the utmost, to look critically at your work but also at yourself and the world around you.
Make choices and justify them.
You learn to be vulnerable, to think and act on your own strength and to stay close to yourself.
In this study I discovered where my passion lies and what makes me happy. That is the most valuable lesson for me.
