What is your specialty, what makes your work unique? Or place your artist's statement.
In animation, my love for film and technology comes together. My broad orientation in the field of 3D animation means that I can create projects independently. I like to have influence on all aspects of the creative process. The control over the image and the stylization that can be achieved with this are the most interesting aspects of this medium for me.
One could describe my specialization as: “jack of all trades, master of none,” but it is precisely this diversity that makes animation so appealing to me.
When working in a team I often take on a technical role. Such as setting up the pipeline, preparing the characters for animation (rigging) and digitally editing the end material (compositing). I am also very interested in animation itself.
My background is in film and video and my interest in this has not disappeared. This makes me really enjoy working on mixed media projects.
What are your ambitions? What do you want to be in five years?
In the coming years I hope to be able to do projects in which I can combine animation with other substantive interests of mine, such as history and philosophy.
Working in a small team with various tasks really appeals to me at this moment, but who knows if this will change in the future.
I also enjoy passing on my knowledge to others. I come from a family of teachers and this seems to be ingrained in my genes. Therefore, I do not rule out the possibility that in the future I would like to devote some of my time to education in any form.
What is the most important thing you have learned during your studies?
I started this study hoping to find like-minded people with whom I could work on animation projects. I have found this in a team with whom I have been making projects since the first year. Our collaboration has taught me a lot about the production process and my role in a group and has led to many great projects.
During my studies I learned a lot about character animation, discovered an interest in pipelines and rigging and even delayed my studies a bit by going overboard on a philosophy course that really got me enthralled. But perhaps the most important thing this study taught me is that it is not my individual interests that make me unique as a creator, but the combination of them all.
