What is your specialty, what makes your work unique? Or place your artist's statement.
My work focuses a lot on feelings related to nostalgia. The ways in which looking back at the past with a present lens might evoke hopefulness, in combination with a distanced view of concepts that might have felt scary at the time. I am interested in the sensation of feeling small compared to bigger or heavier subjects, whilst also experiencing these feelings on a scale that is small. Once you start to get older you might lose this sense a little bit, but these sensibilities are probably still there and are characteristic of the human experience. So bringing these feelings to the surface through a work might be kind of like unlocking a core memory.
What are your ambitions? What do you want to be in five years?
I mostly just want to be content with where I am at. I want to meet new interesting people and artists, and most of all I want to keep finding wonder in making work and in the things around me.
What is the most important thing you have learned during your studies?
I think one of the biggest things I learned during my study time is being able to find unconventional solutions. The thinking patterns that you develop during the four years of your study can be used for pretty much anything. But of course it might mostly relate to understanding the ways to go about the process of making work. Learning to let go of expectations is a big one with thinking about possible outcomes as well, sometimes wonderful things come out of the process, instead of the initial idea. Being able to accept that this is a big part of making a work, and tailoring your next steps based on the route instead of the map can be very beneficial.
