What is your specialty, what makes your work unique? Or place your artist's statement.
I have always been intrigued by worldbuilding within media and how these creative individuals manage to pull you into a world that is unique and different from the one we live in. When I was younger I would write and draw about these worlds, design my own characters and make the world my own.
This passion for world design has stayed with me throughout the years and I have started to fully create my own worlds and visualise them with my art, especially during my time at the HKU. I enjoy creating characters, environments and key frames that have their own narratives behind them and are more than just a plain image. The drive to create a space, whether that is a game, book or movie, that people can get lost in like I do, is what helps me be able to write stories and visualize them in my own personal way.
What are your ambitions? What do you want to be in five years?
I would love to be able to work as a freelancer or to work at a company in the entertainment industry that gives me the freedom to be involved in the design process of worldbuilding since that is what creatively fulfils me the most.
In my spare time I also would like to keep working on my own personal projects and to release an art book of one or more of these projects.
What is the most important thing you have learned during your studies?
I have learnt that there are no rules to what is right and what is wrong when it comes to how you work as an artist. I used to struggle a lot with the idea that my art has to be perfect and has to be at the same standard as everyone else or else it wouldn't be good enough. It's completely fine to have a different approach to something and to work differently than everyone else as long as you're able to make whatever you want to make. Once I made that connection in my mind I was able to create art more freely and started to develop my own style and workflow.
