Moderator Phelim Hoey is an Amsterdam-based visual artist (b. 1984, NL/IE) who studied documentary photography at the School of the Arts (HKU in Utrecht. Incorporating a varied range of media – whether photography, film, ceramics or sculptural installation – Hoey’s work can be read as a form of conceptual storytelling.
Guest Anika Schwarzlose is a German (1982) visual artist, researcher and lecturer living and working in Amsterdam. She studied Photography at Rietveld Academy and Fine Arts at Malmö Art Academy. In her work, she explores the power of images in the representation of political or historical events. Schwarzlose examines lens-based recordings and media, specifically the influence of dispersion, adaptation and composition of images on specific narratives. She has exhibited throughout Europe. Her latest work is a film.
