What is your specialty, what makes your work unique? Or place your artist's statement.

The ‘reminiscent of’ is the common thread that weaves together my paintings. The landscapes and faded photos, printed silkscreen, are reminiscent of something that has happened, but the place of which is no longer certain. I create this effect by letting the material go its own way and thus allowing it to surprise. I welcome coincidences: I like to watch the acrylic ink mix for me on the canvas. I seek to create a correct image, in which there is balance and which questions how much is left for the viewer to fill in for themselves. The way you can recall memories in your head — always just a little blurry like them to show in movies — so I paint my paintings. Often connected with a memory of an image I have seen or thought I saw much before. Sometimes also taken from dreams. They originated by coincidences, but always with the same atmosphere of “already been”. An invented time. I, who saw the shadows in the forest as a child and imagined the wolf running next to the car. Severely under the influence of my fantasy; not a fantasy full of monsters, but full of emotions, I wasn’t afraid of the monster, but of the goosebumps on my arms when I imagined the monster.

What are your ambitions? What do you want to be in five years?

In 5 years I’d like to have had multiple exhibitions, a broader network of fellow artists (not only in the Netherlands) and to be able to live off my art.
I think I will accomplish this by being very aware of what’s going on in the art world, to apply for residencies (abroad) and exhibitions.

What is the most important thing you have learned during your studies?

The most important thing I’ve learned during my studies is to trust yourself, to not compare yourself too much to fellow students, always listen to advice but decide for yourself if that advice should be applied
